Capri Verge Project

Community care helping Capri’s verges and children’s park flourish

About

The Capri Verge Project is a volunteer-led community initiative started by Vivian van Eeden to improve and care for neglected public spaces in Capri.

The project began in 2015 with improvements to the Capri Kids Park and has since expanded to include the cleaning and planting of verges, the creation of small gardens and the restoration of shared spaces throughout the neighbourhood. Each area is tackled section by section as funds, plants and materials become available.

Much of the regular hands-on work is carried out by Lucky, who is well known locally through his car wash and does a tremendous job caring for the children’s park and verges. The results can be seen throughout Capri, but keeping these spaces attractive and well maintained requires ongoing community involvement.

Residents can support the project by volunteering on clean-up days, donating suitable plants or materials, sponsoring a particular verge, or making a monthly contribution. A donation from as little as R20 a month can help, while contributions of R50, R100 or more allow more maintenance and new sections to be tackled. Larger donations and sponsorship from local businesses are also warmly welcomed.

Future ambitions include continuing the work along Shetland Drive and improving the boundary alongside Living Hope, with progress made as community funding allows.
